2011 FAA Cyber Security/Privacy Awareness Event – Washington, DC

I’ll be the instructor for a course titled “IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) Wireless LAN Security” at the 2011 FAA Cyber Security/Privacy Awareness Event – Washington, DC on Thursday, June 23, 2011. If you a FAA Employee, Contractor, or Vendor you should be able to attend. Check out event page for details.

Course Description: This course gives the basic understanding of IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless threats and vulnerabilities.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this workshop, participants will understand:

  • WLAN characteristics
  • Wi-Fi Security overview
  • Wi-Fi Security threats
  • Wi-Fi Security analysis, Scanning tools, and countermeasures

The Office of the Assistant Administrator for Information Services and Chief Information Officer is hosting its annual Cyber Security/Privacy Awareness events. As part of these events you will have the opportunity to attend several cyber security and privacy presentations and a vendor exposition where industry partners will showcase cyber security best practices and technology.

Five FAA locations will host major Cyber Security/Privacy Awareness events this year. These locations are:

  • May 3 – 4, 2011 & July 19 – 20, 2011 – Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, OK
  • June 7 – 8, 2011 – FAA Regional office in Burlington, MA
  • June 17 – 23, 2011 – FAA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
  • June 28 – 30, 2011 – FAA Regional Office in Atlanta, GA
  • July 21 & 26 – 28, 2011 – William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ
  • Locations will offer vendor expositions and the events will include, but are not limited to, the following cyber security and privacy presentations: Privacy Fundamentals, Privacy for IT/ISS Professionals, Advanced Cyber Warrior, Securing and Using Open Source Software in a Federal Environment, Secure Application Development – FAA Minimum System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Requirements, and more.
